Little Red Door Provides Services in ECI

The mission of Cancer Services of East Central Indiana – Little Red Door is to reduce the financial and emotional burdens for those experiencing a cancer diagnosis, as well as promote cancer prevention, early detection and wellness education to help reduce cancer rates in East Central Indiana.

Cancer Services of East Central Indiana – Little Red Door is a United Way partner and is an independent, locally-funded, cancer care and resource agency that does not receive funding from Little Red Door in Indianapolis, Relay for Life, American Cancer Society or any other cancer national fundraising organization; providing unduplicated local cancer support services and education programs that are supported by the generosity and caring spirit of individuals and organizations within East Central Indiana.

Little Red Door assists approximately 1,000 individuals who are experiencing a cancer diagnosis each year with direct services and even greater numbers with indirect services for caregivers and family
members.

The incidence of cancer is high in East Central Indiana, and the need is only increasing for the unduplicated services. Cancer  Little Red Door provides these services at no charge to cancer patients, caregivers and to the community. Cancer Services of East Central Indiana provides free mammograms in Delaware County, gasoline/travel assistance for cancer-related treatment, financial aid for cancer-related prescriptions, nutritional assistance, hospice kits, medical equipment and mastectomy, and ostomy supplies. It is an unfortunate truth, according to a 2009 report from the Kaiser Family Foundation and the American Cancer Society that most cancer patients end up tens of thousands of dollars in debt, including those who believe they have adequate health insurance. In fact, numerous studies have found that medical bills are the biggest cause of bankruptcy in the United States.
